Dwellings

These paintings, from my Dwellings series,  will be at the Cambridge Art Fair, Oct. 2-4th, in Booth G3, with Global Art Traders.

I heard you running after me, because you felt this once, didn’t you? Come, walk with me.

I know that I have felt this dwelling and this one too, and somewhere within the folds of my memory, there remains a formless falling of words that will tie me to this place.

But first, you have to put your vision of a crystallized world of ordered homes and quiet villages to the side, and see? A curious system exists of a classification by lines and a species of color.

Something, is pushing something, into existence.

Move with me by these windowless dwellings, and look, a tensing, flexing multitude of ridges, and, along the ridges flow channels of color, and in these channels are some circles, some bright, some dull, and some interrupt the flow as others pull away.

Coger en un trampa is to catch in a trap, but this is the right way and it’s a marked path, so just follow the lines and you’ll find an exit.  Me?  I think I’ll stay awhile.

fair Gravity and tipsy Time -A brief fictional history of gravitational time dilation

Time and Gravity are lovers, sipping mojitos on the beach, when Time, a little tipsy, leans into fair Gravity and asks, Do you want to time travel? Gravity perks up and says, Oh yes, please!  Time stands up, collapsing the beach chair in the sand, and booms, NOW we are here.   Time waits, tick tock tick tock, and then in a stage whisper says,  And …  now we are here!

Gravity giggles, jumps up and says do you want to play a trust game?  Turn around and fall backwards into me and trust that I will catch you.  Time falls back into Gravity but nothing happens.  Time wavers.  Gravity laughs and says, wait and see,  once you move, something will happen.

pulled in two -SELECT Art Fair, May 13th-17th, NYC

Pulled in two

He called me and my friend Rebecca to the fence that enclosed the playground.  I was eight and he seemed really old to me.  He smiled and winked, opened his hand and said, Want some Tootsie Rolls?  I thought of my lunch that I had made for myself, a heel of bread folded in half with butter and a wilted pickle.  I eyed the Tootsie Rolls, thinking how I loved the mild, slightly chewy chocolate flavor.  Rebecca ran away,  and hesitating, I grabbed the candy and ran back to her as I stashed one of the pieces into my pocket.

”It’s poisoned!”  she yelled at me.  Shamed by her certainty I threw away the piece in my hand.  The rest of the day, I fidgeted in class as I fondled the Tootsie’s outside waxy paper, while twisting and untwisting the ends I imagined the chocolate on my tongue and my stomach grumbled it’s inclination.     Running home from school, I pictured my death by poison and  my parent crying at my funeral.  I let myself into our house and stood in the quiet doorway,  I unwrapped the Tootsie Roll, examined it and pulled it in two.
